epared by the druid Panoramix. His village in Armorica stands as the last stronghold of resistance against the Roman Empire.
The series quickly achieved international success. The adventures of Asterix, translated into many languages, charm audiences with their humor, historical references, and social satire. After Goscinny’s death in 1977, Uderzo continued on his own, ensuring the continuity of this universe and maintaining the character’s popularity.
Among the main characters, Obelix holds a prominent place as Asterix’s loyal companion. Having acquired herculean strength after falling into the magic potion cauldron in his childhood, he is characterized by his jovial nature. He is always accompanied by his menhir and his dog Idefix.
The druid Panoramix, the inventor of the magic potion, embodies wisdom and maintains the village’s balance by healing wounds and providing the warriors with the necessary strength.
The village chief, Abraracourcix, is known for his authority and pride, while his wife Bonemine plays an important role by reminding her husband to remain composed.
Finally, Assurancetourix, the bard, is convinced of his singing talent, although his performances are often poorly received by the villagers, who do not hesitate to stop him from performing. Despite his artistic misadventures, he remains an integral member of the community.
Throughout the albums, Asterix and his companions travel across Gaul and other regions such as Brittany, Hispania, and Egypt, encountering various characters and sometimes poking fun at cultural stereotypes.
Thanks to witty storytelling and a keen attention to historical detail, the Asterix series has become a major symbol of Francophone comics.
